(a) the present status of Ranganadi Hydel Power Project of North Eastern Electric Power Corporation;

(b) the date on which the foundation stone for the project was laid;

(c) the reasons for delay in completion of the project; and

(d) the likely time by which the project would be made operational?

(a) : The construction activities relating to Ranganadi Hydro Electric Project (405 MW) in Arunachal Pradesh are in advanced stage. Details of physical progress of these activities are indicated in the Annexure.

(b) : The project was initially sanctioned by the Planning Commission in April, 1987 and the foundation stone was laid on 4th April, 1988.

(c) : The main reasons for delay in the commissioning of the project are attributed to the following:-

i. The project was originally sanctioned by Planning Commission in April, 1987. But major project construction activities could only be started after receiving the forest clearance in July, 1990.

ii. There was a further delay of about 2 years in getting a decision regarding the type of Dam to be constructed.

iii. There was slow progress in construction the Head Race Tunnel due to adverse geological conditions.

iv. Unprecedent floods in Dikrong River during July, 1998 causing flooding of Power House Area.

(d) : All the three units of 135 MW each are scheduled to be commissioned in the year 2001-2002.
