ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE (IC) OF THE MINISTRY OF AYURVEDA,
YOGA & NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY
(SHRI SHRIPAD YESSO NAIK)
(a) & b): AYUSH medicines are regulated under the exclusive provisions of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Rules thereunder and it is mandatory for the manufacturers to follow quality standards prescribed in the respective pharmacopoeias. However, the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 issued by the Central Government under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 does not cover formulations or medicines of Ayurvedic, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy systems of medicine for the purpose of price control.
(c) & (d): Ministry of AYUSH has not conducted any study about the efficacy, quality and price control mechanism for AYUSH medicines.
(e): Bureau of Pharma Public Sector Undertakings of India (BPPI) under the Department of Pharmaceuticals issued a circular dated 27th August, 2019 permitting the sale of licensed Ayurvedic medicines from Janaushadhi Kendras.
