Question : Investment by EDF in Renewable Energy

(a) whether the French state-run power major EDF proposes to invest $2 billion in renewable energy in the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government has taken effective steps to tap the huge hydropower potential and if so, the details thereof; and
(d) if not, the reasons therefor and the steps being taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) & (b): No such proposal has been received.
• Resource Assessment, Detailed Survey & Investigation, DPR Preparation and perspective plan for States
• Capital Subsidy to State Sector Projects
• Subsidy for Private Sector Projects
• Micro Hydro & Water Mills for village electrification
• Renovation & Modernization of old SHP projects
• Research & Development and Capacity building
(c): Small Hydro Projects (SHP) upto 25MW station capacity is classified as Renewable energy source. Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) provides Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for the following activities-

An aggregate capacity of 4333.85MW of SHP has been installed in the country.
(d): Question does not arise.
