MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS(SHRI R. VELU)

(a) to (c): A statement is attached.

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.2994 BY SHRI CHANDRABHAN SINGH TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 20.03.2008 REGARDING SURVEY FOR NEW RAILWAY LINE.

(a) & (b): The present status of surveys is as under:-

A survey for new broad gauge line from Jabalpur to Panna via Damoh was conducted in 1999. As per the survey report, cost of construction of this 246 km long line was assessed as Rs. 444 crore with a negative Rate of Return of (-) 2.67%. In view of acute constraint of resources and heavy throwforward of ongoing projects, it has not been found feasible to consider the proposal.

A survey for construction of a new BG line between Damoh and Kundalpur (33.25 km) has been completed recently. As per the survey report, cost of construction of this line has been assessed as Rs.49.01 crore with a negative Rate of Return of (-)5.37%. Since the proposed line is unremunerative in nature and could be proposed on socio economic considerations, Government of Madhya Pradesh was requested to share cost of the line to the extent of atleast 50%, but the same has not been agreed to.

(c): Not feasible to be indicated.
