Question : RE- CONSTITUTION OF DELHI URBAN ARTS COMMISSION



(a) whether the Government has re-constituted the Delhi Urban Arts Commission (DUAC);

(b) if so, the details of office bearers and their qualifications;

(c) the plan of action of DUAC for next two years; and

(d) the manner in which the commission is likely to address the problems of JJ cluster around palatial buildings in urban areas and unauthorized constructions in office buildings?

(a)&(b): The Government has made appointments to the post of Chairman and three non-official Members of Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC) on 1st April, 2005. The Commission now consists of:-

(i) Shri Charles Correa, M. Arch, as Chairman (part time),

(ii) Shri Jasbir Sawhney, M. Arch (USA) as Member (part time.)

(iii) Shri Mohammad Shaheer, B. Arch., PG diploma in Architecture and Urban Design, MA (Landscape Design) as Member (part time)

(iv) Smt. Narayani Gupta, MA (Modern History), Ph. D. as Member (part time)

(v) Shri P.K. Pradhan, Joint Secretary (Delhi & Lands), Ministry of Urban Development, as Official Member.

(c): DUAC considers proposal referred to it by local bodies, in terms of its mandate. The Commission also initiates suo-motu studies relating to aspects concerning Delhi. Studies that have been taken up by the Commission are:

(i) Road Geometry at `A` point crossing at ITO and `W` point crossing connecting Mathura Road, Sikandra Road and Tilak Marg.

(ii) Impact of Metro Rail Transport System (MRTS) on Urban Development in Shahdra area.

(d): Action on the issues relating to JJ clusters and unauthorized construction is taken by the concerned local bodies and land owning agencies.
