Question : Defects in NHs

(a) the number of engineering/structural defects in construction of National Highways causing accidents have come to the notice of the Government across the country during the last three years, State/UT-wise and NH-wise along with the action taken/being taken by the Government to remove such engineering/structural defects so far; and

(b) whether the Government has received any complaints from various quarters on the engineering/structural defects in National Highways in the country during the said period, if so, the details thereof, State/UT-wise and NH-wise?

(a) and (b) National Highways are designed and Constructed as per the standards and specifications laid down by the Indian Road Congress (IRC) & Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) guidelines which include safety aspects. Engineering/structural defects noticed during design, construction & maintenance of National Highways are corrected suitably as per the provisions of the contract agreements. Road safety audits are also conducted for identifying the safety concerns which are rectified through remedial measures.
