Question : Collection of Vehicle Entry fee by Cantonment Boards

(a) the funds collected by various Cantonment Boards by levying vehicle entry fee in the country
during each of the last three years;

(b) whether the Government has issued instructions to all Cantonment Boards in the country for stopping forthwith the collection of vehicle entry fee;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether some of the Cantonment Boards are still collecting vehicle entry fee/tax;

(e) if so, the details thereof along with the reasons therefor; and

(f) the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government in this regard?

IN THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE

(a) to (c): Out of 62 Cantonment Boards, Vehicle Entry Fee (VEF) was levied by 25 Cantonment Boards only. The funds collected by these 25 Boards in last three years are as under:

Ministry of Defence vide letter dated 07.01.2022 has issued instructions to Cantonment Boards
to discontinue collection of VEF. Accordingly, the collection of VEF has been discontinued by Cantonment Boards.
(d) & (e): 10 Cantonment Boards are collecting Vehicle Entry Tax/Toll Tax under Section 66 of Cantonments Act, 2006.

(f) The matter is under consideration of the Government.
