Question : PROPOSAL FROM WEST BENGAL FOR SPORTS DEVELOPMENT



(a) whether any proposal from West Bengal for development and promotion of sports has been received during the last three years and till-date ;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the action taken thereon ; and

(c) the present status of the above proposal ?

(a) to (c): Under the scheme of “State Sports Academies”, a proposal has been received from West Bengal but has been found deficient in certain respects. The deficiencies have been communicated to the State Government for doing the needful.

Apart from this, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) has a Regional Centre at Kolkatta. SAI is also running various sports promotional schemes such as the National Sports Contest Scheme (NSTC), Special Area Games (SAG), SAI Training Centres (STC), Army Boys Sports Company (ABSC) and Centres of Excellence (COX). The details of the number of centres under these Schemes in West Bengal, and the funds provided for trainees under these Schemes in the State of West Bengal during the last three years, are given below:
