Question : Digging of Wells for Water Conservation

(a) whether the Government is planning any new scheme pertaining to digging of wells, canals, ponds etc. for water conservation in the country including Karnataka, if so, the details thereof; and

(b) the number of districts likely to be covered thereunder in each State?

(a) & (b) A scheme on Repair, Renovation and Restoration (RRR) of water bodies has been undertaken (since 2008) for improvement of catchment areas of water bodies, command area development, increase in the capacity of the water bodies, ground water recharge, improvement in agriculture/horticulture productivity, development of tourism, cultural activities, increase availability of drinking water.

This Ministry has recently launched Jal Kranti Abhiyan (2015-16 to 2017-18) in order to consolidate water conservation and management in the country through a holistic and integrated approach involving all stakeholders, making it a mass movement. The State-wise coverage is Annexed.
