Question : UPGRADATION AND MODERNISATION WORK IN DD AKASHVANI KENDRAS



(a) the details of the upgradation and modernisation work carried out in the Doordarshan and Akashvani Kendras in Andhra Pradesh during the last three years and the current year, Kendra/ Station-wise; and

(b) the area-wise details of such locations in the State which are not yet covered by the transmission/broadcast of the Doordarshan and Akashvani Kendras and the steps being taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) & (b) Prasar Bharati has informed that All India Radio (AIR) Stations are functional at 25 places in Andhra Pradesh. Location-wise details of the AIR stations and upgradation and modernisation work carried out in these AIR Akashvani Kendras during the last three years and the current year are given in Annexure-I.
As regards Doordarshan, the details of major upgradation and modernisation works carried out at Doordarshan Kendras (Studio Centres)/ stations in Andhra Pradesh during the last three years and the current year, are given at the Annexure-II.
Doordarshan coverage in terrestrial mode is estimated to be available to about 89.7% of the population spread over about 82.7% area of Andhra Pradesh. All the areas uncovered by terrestrial transmission, (as well as the country as a whole) have been provided with multi channel TV coverage through Doordarshan’s free-to-air DTH service.

Following areas in Andhra Pradesh are not being covered by AIR terrestrial coverage :
i) Small area of North-Western part of Visakhapatnam district.
ii) Small area of North-East pocket of Srikakulam district near Somtore.
However, 21 radio channels (Programmes) of AIR available on Doordarshan’s DTH platform in Ku-band (DD FREE DISH) can be received through a set top box in entire Andhra Pradesh including uncovered areas.
