Question : Linking Aadhaar Number with Pension Bank Account

(a) the number of Central Government pensioners who have seeded their pension accounts with their Aadhaar numbers under Jeevan Praman Project;

(b) whether the Government has launched a massive exercise to encourage Central Government pensioners to seed their bank account with Aadhaar number, if so, the details thereof; and
(c) whether Jeevan Praman which is a service for pensioners on basis of Aadhaar is proposed to be made mandatory and if so, the details thereof and steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) : As on 22.04.2016, Aadhaar seeding has been done in 29,80,418 accounts out of 48,42,123 Central Pension accounts with Public Sector Banks.

(b) : Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare has requested Chief Secretaries of all States/UTs to guide the district authorities to give all possible help to the banks at the District level in reaching out to and sensitizing the pensioners for voluntary seeding of pension accounts with Aadhaar numbers. Banks also observed Pensioners’ fortnight from 1st to 15th March, 2016 wherein they attended the grievances of the pensioners and informed them of the benefits associated with the linkage of Aadhaar number to the pension accounts. All District Collectors/Magistrates requested to advise all bank branches in their districts to assist in the process of Aadhaar seeding.

(c) : Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare has informed that there is no proposal under consideration to make seeding of pension accounts with their Aadhaar numbers mandatory.
