Question : Theft Cases in Marriage Ceremony

(a) whether the Government is aware that theft cases in marriage ceremony has increased during the last two years in Delhi;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the number of such cases registered during the last two years;

(c) the number of theft cases solved so far in Delhi during the said period; and

(d) the steps taken by the Government in this regard so far?

(a) to (d): As reported by Delhi Police, the number of theft cases in marriage ceremonies reported to them during the years 2017 and 2018 are 21 and 13 respectively, i.e. a decline of 38%. Out of these 34 cases, 11 cases have been worked out and 21 persons have been arrested.

2. Delhi Police has instituted a number of measures to both prevent and expeditiously detect crimes, of which major ones include, ensuring adequate police arrangements at the marriage venues on requests and during marriage seasons, sensitization and briefing of Police Station staff to be on the lookout for baggage lifters, thieves and snatchers, strategically placing Police Control Room (PCR) vans and Emergency Response Vehicles (ERV) at vulnerable places, ensuring sufficient foot and motorcycle patrolling to cover the areas and taking appropriate legal action whenever any such crime comes to notice.
