(a) : The fourth meeting of Indo-Nepal Joint Working Group (JWG) and Joint Steering Committee (JSC) was held recently in Nepal. The main issues discussed in the meeting and outcome are as follows :-
1. The progress/status of the existing, on-going and new cross-border transmission lines between India and Nepal.
2. The progress of Arun-III and other hydro projects along with their Associated Transmission System (ATS).
3. Bilateral Exchange of ‘Technical Know How” in the power sector.
It was decided that modalities and terms & conditions for bilateral mode of trading of power, through on-going cross-border transmission lines can be discussed separately.
(b) & (c) : Possibility of constructing following new cross-border power transmission lines for exchange of power between India and Nepal were discussed in the above meeting:
1) New Butwal (Nepal)- Gorakhpur (New)(India) 400kV D/C (Quad Moose) line.
2) Dhalkebar (Nepal)- Muzaffarpur (India) 400 kV D/C (IInd) (Quad Moose) line.
3) Upper Karnali/ Lumki(Nepal)- Bareilly (India) 400kv D/c (Quad Moose) line.
(d) & (e) : At present, the total power drawn by Nepal from India is about 370 MW – 380 MW, through existing 33kV/132kV transmission lines. There is no decision at present on additional power supply to Nepal.
