Question : Curriculum on Health Education

(a) whether the Government has allowed to include health education in the school
curriculum to increase awareness regarding good health;
(b) if so, the locations where School Health Ambassador Programme is being launched
in the first phase along with the time by which health education is likely to be included
in school curriculum in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat State; and
(c) the details thereof?

(a) to (c): Health and Physical Education is a part of the school curriculum from Class I-XII.
Health related age appropriate and context specific content have been integrated in the textbooks
and supplementary reading materials of National Council of Educational Research and Training
(NCERT).
The School Health Programm (SHP) under Ayushman Bharat is a joint collaborative
Programme of the Ministry of Human Resources Development and Ministry of Health and
Family Welfare. The programme targets both education and Health implementers and is
envisaged to facilitate an integrated approach to health programming and more effective learning
at the school level. SHP aims to foster growth, development and educational achievements of
school-going children by promoting their health and well-being. It also aims to strengthen the
concept of preventive, promotive and positive health.
The resource package of SHP including “Curriculum on Health and Wellness of School
Going Children” was launched on 12.02.2020. Orientation Programme for the National
Resource Group (NRG) and State Nodal Officers, including those from Gujarat and Madhya
Pradesh State has been conducted on the said date. In the first phase, the programme covers 200
districts selected from aspirational and Rashtriya Kishore Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK) districts
in the Government and Government aided upper primary, secondary, senior secondary schools.
