Question : CHILD LABOUR IN U.P



(a) the steps taken by the Government to reduce the child labour in the State of Uttar Pradesh;

(b) whether the Government of Uttar Pradesh has prepared any concrete programme in this regard;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the World Bank or any other financial institutions are helping Government of Uttar Pradesh in Integrated Child Development Service; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (e) : As per the information received from the State Government of Uttar Pradesh, the order of Supreme Court is being implemented in earnestness. Three surveys have been conducted to identify child labour in 1997, 1999 and 2000. Prosecutions have been sanctioned and 270 schools have been opened. The Government of Uttar Pradesh has also established a corpus fund of Rs.1.15 crore for 23 child labour prone districts. District Child Labour Abolition Committees have been formed for all the districts.

With the support of World Bank, I.C.D.S.III Project involving Rs.274.37 crore is being implemented in 110 Development Blocks for the State.
