Question : Salary of Teachers of Sainik Schools

(a) whether teachers of the 33 Sainik schools are being given salary from the scholarships of the students at present, if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;
(b) whether the Ministry has received representations from the public representatives to separate the salary and pensions of teachers of Sainik schools from the scholarship funds of students, if so, the details thereof and the action taken thereon;
(c) the procedural difficulties in considering the salary and pensions as separate heading in these Sainik schools;
(d) whether the Government proposes to change the laws governing the Sainik schools society to address this issue and if so, the details thereof; and
(e) whether the Ministry further recognize the teachers of these 33 Sainik schools as unsung heroes as they mold about 25 percent of illustrious and highly decorated officers of the armed forces and if so, the details thereof?

IN THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE

(a): No, Sir. The salaries of teachers of 33 Sainik Schools are not paid from the scholarship of the students. The salary of teachers at the level of Vth Central Pay Commission are paid from the annual tuition fees received from the Cadets. Further additionality as a result of VIth & VIIth Central Pay Commission implementation is catered to by the Sainik Schools Society, Ministry of Defence.

(b) to (d): No, Sir. No such representation(s) have been received from any public representatives. Further, there is no such proposal under consideration to separate salary and pension heads.

(e): The Ministry recognizes the importance of Sainik Schools imparting quality education to the cadets for shaping future leaders of the country with recognition towards its teachers who are instrumental in shaping the future of their student by way of a structured mechanism of recommending them for Excellence Awards of Ministry of Education.
