Question : SUPPLY OF DIESEL TO FARMERS THROUGH TANKERS



(a) whether with a view to make diesel available at the door steps of the farmers in the villages, oil companies have made arrangements to supply diesel through tankers in Haryana;

(b) if so, the extent to which this experiment has been successful;

(c) whether this scheme will be implemented in other States also; and

(d) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) : In July, 2003, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has launched one 9 kilolitre (kl) capacity tanker on an experimental basis to supply diesel at the doorsteps of people in the villages in Sirsa District in Haryana.

(b) to (d) : The preliminary reports indicate that the scheme has been appreciated by local villagers/farmers. Improvements in customer service, making available diesel, at places where there is a demand, are part of the ongoing exercise by the Oil Marketing Companies, for implementation of any such scheme.
