(a) to (e) : A Statement is laid on the Table of the House.
STATEMENT IN REPLY TO THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 193 FOR 10.03.2015 REGARDING ‘VIOLENCE IN ASSAM’ RAISED BY SHRI BADRUDDIN AJMAL: SHRI TARIQ ANWAR.
(a): As per available information, during the last three years and in the current year (upto 28.02. 2015) 639 numbers of incidents of violence were committed by the militant outfits namely United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) (ULFA/I), National Democratic Front of Boroland (Songbijit) (NDFB/S), Karbi People Liberation Tigers (KPLT) and other militant outfits claiming lives of 242 persons (including 14 security forces personnel) in Assam including Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD). Details of persons injured in the militant violence is not maintained at the central level. Details of violence committed by these militant outfits, year wise in Assam are given as under:-

(b): The State Government has paid ex-gratia grant of Rs.5.00 lakh to each next of kin (NOK) of the victims who died in violence. Besides, Rs.3.00 lakh is also paid by the Central Government to the NOK of the victims through the State Government.
(c) & (d): Due to clashes which took place between the two communities in the year 2012 in BTAD area in Assam more than 4.85 lakh persons had taken refuge in the relief camps setup by the State Govern- ment. The State Government had provided relief materials and rehabilitation grants to the affected families. All persons had returned to their native place/villages. Further, 2.86 lakh persons had taken refuge in the relief camps due to violence committed by the NDFB(S) in BTAD area and adjoining district in Assam in December 2014. As per report all persons who were staying in the relief camps had returned to their native places/villages.
(e):Sustained Counter Insurgency Operation by the security forces are continuing against militant outfits in Assam. In the current year (upto 28.02.2015), 179 cadres of militant outfits have been arrested and 93 numbers of arms have been recovered. The Central Government is providing all possible assistance in- cluding additional companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to the State Government to deal with the situation. Besides, security related issues have been taken up with the Governments of Bangladesh, Myanmar and Bhutan at various level. They have assured continued co-operation in addressing the security concerns of India.Download PDF Files
