Question : Setting up of Central University in AP

(a) whether the Government has any proposal to set up a new Central University in the State of Andhra Pradesh as envisaged in the Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation Act, 2014;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether any survey has been conducted for selection of site for establishing the University and if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(d) whether the Government has made any financial allocation for the same during the current financial year and if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the time by which it is likely to be implemented?

(a) to (e): Yes, Madam. In pursuance of Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation Act, 2014, the Central Government has decided to establish a Central University in the State of Andhra Pradesh. A Site has already been finalised for this purpose in Ananthapur District of the State. Adequate funds would be released by the University Grants Commission in accordance with the requirement and phasing of establishment and construction activities. No definite time period can be given as establishment of a new Central University depends on enactment of the relevant Bill.
