(a) whether the quality of telecommunication to Dawki is not up to the mark and people are finding difficulties in communicating from Shillong to Dawki; and
(b) if so, the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to restore quality telecommunication link to this important border outpost which is in a strategic location and an important point of trade and commence between India and Bangladesh?

(a) Sir, due to inadequate availability of channels to carry traffic and occasional malfunctioning in the transmission equipment the performance is not upto the mark.
(b) The Optical Fibre Cable has been planned between the Jowai and Dawki to improve communication from Shillong to Dawki and is likely to be commissioned during the current financial year.
