Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE OF THE MINISTRY OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING AND MINISTER OF STATE OF THE MINISTRY OF LAW, JUSTICE AND COMPANY AFFAIRS (SHRI ARUN JAITLEY)

(a): During 1998-99, two AIR FM Tr. at Indore and Bhopal and Six Doordarshan Transmitters at Bada Malhera, Bhanpura, Garot, Piparia, Sitamau and Sarangarh were commissioned. During the year 1999-2000, one AIR FM Transmitter at Jabalpur and two Doordarshan Transmitters at Raipur and Pendra Road were commissioned.

(b): Three new AIR Stations at Saraipalli, Rajgarh and Mandla are proposed to be set up in Madhya Pradesh during 2000-2001. The details of Doordarshan projects commissioned during the current year and those presently under implementation are given in Annexure-I.

(c)&(d): All the district headquarters of M.P. (as per 1991 census) are covered by AIR and Doordarshan transmission either from a local Radio Station and Doordarshan Transmitter or from a nearby Radio Station/Doordarshan Transmitter. DD transmitters are not located at nine district headquarters of M.P. viz. Dewas, Dhar, Durg, Hoshangabad, Morena, Raisen, Rajnandgaon, Sihore and Vidisha. List of districts Head Quarter where AIR stations are not located is given in Annexure-II. Locations of Radio and Doordarshan transmitter are not planned district-wise and hence there is no proposal to set up DD centres and Radio stations in each of the district Headquarters. Further, expansion of Radio/TV coverage in the state is being carried out in a phased manner, depending on the requirement and availability of resources.
