STATEMENT IN RESPECT OF PARTS (a) TO (d) OF LOK SABHA STARRED
QUESTION NO.263 TO BE ANSWERED ON 11/12/2006 REGARDING `KRISHI
VIGYAN KENDRAS`
(a) There are 541 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), 42 Agricultural Universities, 95 ICAR
Institutions in the country.
(b) The total Expenditure incurred thereon by the ICAR is as under: Rs. in Crore 2003-04 2004-05 2005-06 1478.62 1628.65 1843.19
(c)&(d) : ICAR has an in-built mechanism of undertaking the assessment/ evaluation
of its various research programmes/ schemes. At Headquarters level, there are eight
Subject Matter Divisions which assess and monitor the quality of research undertaken
by the Institutions under their domain. At regional level, there are eight Regional
Committees comprising various State Government functionaries, State Agricultural
Universities and ICAR Institutes which review the status of Agricultural Research and
make recommendations on location specific problems peculiar to that region. At Institute
level, there are Staff Research Council, Institute Management Committee (Institute
Management Board for Institutes having the status of deemed-to-be universities). Each
Institute also has a Research Advisory Committee which is constituted of outside eminent
experts as Members as well as Chairman. Further, each Institute, after a period of Five Year
is reviewed by a Quinquennial Review Team(QRT) constituted of outside eminent experts
as Members as well as Chairman which thoroughly evaluate the research programmes/
schemes.
