MINISTER OF TOURISM & CULTURE (SHRI JAGMOHAN)
(a), (b) & (c): Yes, Sir. The Department of Tourism gives financial assistance to
the States and Union Territories of India for holding fairs and festivals in their
respective States/Union Territories. The details of fairs and festivals to which
financial assistance has been given in the last two years is enclosed as
Annexure-I. & II. Cultural fairs & festival are held abroad but are not organised
by Department of Tourism. These Offices only participate in them.
(d): The fairs and festivals are held in various States/Union Territories
of India for promoting tourism in the country. The increase or decrease in
tourists inflow and foreign exchange earnings to these places cannot be directly
attributed to the holding of fairs and festivals as tourism is influenced by
various other factors like safety and security, international scenario etc.
