Question : Advisory to TV Channels

(a) whether the Government has taken note that a number of visual media are airing visuals and news to promote anti-national agenda and to instigate communal violence in the country and if so, the reaction of the Government thereto;

(b) whether the Government has issued an advisory/ warning to all private satellite TV channels asking them to be cautious about content that may incite violence or promote “anti-national” attitudes in the light of unabated violence in Delhi;

(c) if so, whether any channel has been found to be violating the regulations pertaining to broadcasting any content which is likely to encourage or incite violence;

(d) if so, the details of such channels identified by the Government and action taken against them including cancellation of their licences; and

(e) whether the Government has further taken note of the private channels that propagate hatred in its debates and talk shows in the pretext of editorial opinion and if so, the action taken thereon?

(a) to (e): All private satellite TV channels are required to adhere to the Programme and Advertising Codes as prescribed in the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 and the Rules framed thereunder. Appropriate action is taken as per the rules whenever violation of the said Codes is established.

The Central Government issues Advisories from time to time to all private satellite TV channels to adhere to the Programme Code under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995. The Government has in the recent times issued advisories on 11.12.2019, 20.12.2019 and 25.02.2020 on the subject.
