(a) whether the Government have received any proposal from Tamil Nadu Government to improve the roads between Arcot and Thiruvarnt for environmental clearance;
(b) if so, whether the Government have accorded clearance to the said proposal;
(c) if so, whether the Government have also given clearance for upgrading the Cuddalore-Tuticorin highway; and
(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) Yes, Sir. A proposal to improve roads from Arcot to Thiruvarur (Northern Corridor) has been received from Government of Tamil Nadu.
(b) No Sir.
(c)&(d) A proposal to improve roads from Cuddalore-Tuticorin (excluding the stretch passing through Karaikal) having a length of 397 kms. was accorded environmental clearance on 6.7.2000 subject to effective implementation of certain environmental safeguards/mitigation measures.
