Question : Maritime India Summit

(a) whether the Government has organized Maritime India Summit recently for attracting investment in maritime sector in the country and if so, the details thereof;
(b) the number of foreign delegates participated in the Summit;
(c) the number of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during the Summit; and
(d) the total investment likely to be made in the country as a result thereof?

(a)to(d):Yes, Madam, Maritime India Summit was held during 14-16 April 2016 at Mumbai, wherein more than 500 foreign participants from 42 countries had participated. 141 MOUs/Business agreements with an estimated investment of around Rs.83,000 crs (USD 12.8 bn) were signed during the Summit. These MoUs/Business Agreements relate to different segments of the maritime sector such as port modernisation, new port development, inland waterways, hinterland connectivity & multimodal logistics, coastal shipping, ship building and ship repair, port led industrialization, green initiatives in port, light house tourism and maritime education and training etc. Besides Memorandum of Understandings/Business Agreements, a three day Exhibition was held where 197 number of exhibiters had participated that including 81 foreign exhibitors.
