Question : Environment Clearance to Industrial Units

(a) the details of industrial units that have been granted environment clearance by the Ministry under Environmental Impact Assessment Notification, 2006 in West Bengal, district-wise;
(b) the details of red category industries operating in West Bengal, district-wise;
(c) whether the Ministry proposes to have a study on the rising air pollution levels of Kalyani and North 24 Paraganas districts which have several cement, steel, gas, pharmaceuticals and glass industries and if so, the details thereof; and
(d) whether the Ministry has advised State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) to refrain from giving any further consent to set up any such factory in the said areas and if so, the details thereof?

(a) Total of 438industrial/developmental projects in West Bengal have been granted Environmental Clearance by the Ministryunder Environmental Impact Assessment Notification, 2006. The District-wise details of these projects are enclosed as Annexure-1.
(b) There are 3894 Red Category Industries operating in West Bengal. The District-wise details are enclosed as Annexure-2.
(c) Central Pollution Control Board monitors the ambient air quality in Kalyani (District Nadia), andBarasatand Barrackpore (District North 24 Paraganas).
(d) No Sir. Further, as per the present siting policy of West Bengal, Red Category industries are not permitted to set up in the municipal areas of Kolkata Metropolitan Area.
