Question : Anti-National Activities

(a) whether there has been a spurt in the anti-national activities in certain
educational institutions including the Jawaharlal Nehru University of Delhi;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the total number of such cases reported during each of the last three years and the current year, educational institution and State-wise;

(c) whether any action has been taken against the guilty persons involved in such activities;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the measures taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to check such cases in future?

(a): Madam, there were some isolated undesirable incidents occurred in certain educational institutions including the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) of Delhi. These incidents have been dealt by authorities of the University and local administration responsible for Law & Orders.
(b): The data of such incidents in educational institutions are not maintained centrally.

(c) & (d): The local administration deals with such incidents by registering cases under the relevant laws. The Delhi Police had registered a case for raising anti-India slogans and other offences in the JNU incident. A High Level Enquiry Committee (HLEC) was also constituted by the Jawaharlal University authorities to investigate the event and action was taken against those students who were found guilty for misconduct and indiscipline.

(e) Central Universities are autonomous institutions created under the act of the Parliament which are governed by their own Acts, Statues etc. and regulations made there under and are competent to take all administrative decisions to maintain the Law and Order in the Universities.
