(a) whether the Government extends technology upgradation support to the farmers engaged in cotton farming like awareness about modern methods of cultivation, improved seeds, protection from crop diseases, ways of getting better yield etc.; and

(a): Yes, Madam. Government of India has been implementing Mini Mission-II of Technology Mission on Cotton in important cotton growing states to increase productivity and production of cotton. Under the scheme assistance is provided on various inputs like seeds, agriculture implements, water saving devices, bio-agents/bio pesticides, integrated pest management, transfer of crop production and plant protection technologies through demonstrations and training of farmers and extension workers etc.

(b): As a result of implementation of above Scheme, the production of cotton has increased from 99.97 lakh bales in 2001-02 to 335.00 lakh bales in 2010-11 (1st Advance Estimate). The State-Wise production of cotton during the last three years is annexed.
