Question : Income Tax Simplification Committee

(a) whether the Government has set up a Committee under the Chairmanship of Justice R.V. Easwar to simplify the tax regime;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with its salient recommendations made by this Committee;

(c) whether the Government has taken any steps to implement the recommendations of the Committee in order to safeguard and provide relief to the tax payers particularly the senior citizens;

(d) if so, the details thereof along with the time by which the said recommendations are likely to be implemented; and

(a) to (e): The Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance has constituted a Committee under the Chairmanship of Justice R.V. Easwar, former Judge of Delhi High Court and former President, ITAT on 27.10.2015 to simplify the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961, for a period of one year from the date of its constitution. The Committee is yet to give its report to the Government on the Terms of Reference.
