(a) to (e): A Statement is laid on the Table of the House.
STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 277 FOR ANSWER ON 25.7.2014
There have been 49 ceasefire violations (CFVs) along the Line of Control (LoC) during the period from 1st January, 2014 till 22nd July, 2014. One Indian Army personnel has been injured in such violations during the said period.
All CFVs are taken up with the Pakistani military authorities at the appropriate level through the established mechanism of hotlines, flag meetings as well as weekly talks between the Directors General Military Operations (DGsMO) of both the countries. The ceasefire violations have been denied by the Pakistani military authorities.
Diplomatically, India has repeatedly emphasised, including at the highest level, the need for Pakistan to uphold the sanctity of the LoC and abide by the ceasefire commitment of 2003 along the International Border and LoC in J&K.
Further, in the bilateral talks held on 27th May, 2014 during the visit of the Prime Minister of Pakistan to India, the two PMs agreed that Foreign Secretaries of both the countries would get in touch to explore how to move bilateral relations forward. Our Prime Minister further emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and tranquillity at the borders and upholding the sanctity of the Line of Control (LoC).
