STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 145 TO BE ANSWERED ON 30TH JULY, 2015 RAISED BY SHRI KALIKESH N. SINGH DEO AND SHRI VINAYAK BHAURAO RAUT REGARDING ‘SHIP-BUILDING/SHIP-REPAIRING FACILITIES’
(a)&(b):No, Madam. In addition to public sector shipyards, private investors have set up shipyards in the country. On the West Coast, Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering Company has come up with sufficient capacity to build large ships including Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC). On the East Coast, Larsen & Toubro Shipbuilding Ltd. has built a large shipyard near Chennai.
(c) Does not arise.
(d)&(e):Yes Madam. Lighthouses have been identified to promote lighthouse-based tourism and Techno Economic Feasibility study has been completed for 15 lighthouses as indicated at Annexure-I along with their findings.
