Question : Contract Workers in CIL

(a) the total number of workers engaged by the contractors in each of the subsidiary coal mines of Coal India Limited (CIL), Company-wise;
(b) the total wages fixed for payment to workers of various categories appointed by the contractors ;
(c) whether the payment to workers is being made by the contractors as per the agreement made in this regard;
(d) if so, the details thereof, company-wise ; and
(e) if not, the action taken/proposed to be taken by the Government in this regard ?

(b): Wages fixed for payment of workers deployed by the contractors is as under:
(i) In mining activities wages are being paid as defined under section 2(h) (j) & (k) of Mines Act, 1952 as given below:-
Categories of employees Minimum wages (per day) w.e.f. 1.4.2015 for six months.
Un-skilled Rs. 494.00
Semi-skilled/Unskilled supervisory Rs. 531.00
Skilled Rs. 568.00
Highly skilled Rs. 606.00

(ii) In other works/activities wages are being paid as per the minimum wages fixed /prescribed by the respective State Government from time to time.
(c) to (e): Wages as explained above are paid by the contractors.
