Question : PROFICIENCY TEST FOR PILOTS



(a) whether a new directive of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has made it mandatory for serving pilots and Air Traffic Controllers to go through a proficiency test in English language;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the reasons therefor?

(a) and (b): Yes, Madam. Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR), Section 7, Series G, Part III, making it mandatory only for serving pilots to go through proficiency test in English language. The CAR is available on the official website of DGCA.

(c): The requirement regarding language proficiency in English language for Pilots is in accordance with the norms prescribed by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
