Question : Admission in Engineering and Professional Institutions

(a) the total number of seats available for admission in various courses of Engineering and Professional Institutes of Government and private sector in the country as on date;
(b) the number of applications received for admission in various courses of such institutes as on date;
(c) whether all the applicants have got admission in such institutes and if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether the seats are still lying vacant in different courses of these institutes and if so, the details thereof, Institute/Course-wise; and
(e) the steps taken or proposed to be taken by the Government to fill such vacant seats in these Institutes?

(a) to (e): The total number of seats for admission in the Academic year 2020-2021 in various courses of Engineering and Professional Institutes of Central Government is 57,443 and for All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approved Government & Private Institutions are 5,64,308 and 25,22,357 respectively.

The data regarding number of applications received for admission in various courses of such institutes is not centrally maintained. However, the total enrolment in various courses of Engineering and Professional Institutes of Central Government is 57,165 and for AICTE approved Government & Private Institutions are 3,87,880 and 12,74,232.

The filling of seats depends upon the merit and preference/choice of candidates for the course and institution. A number of counselling rounds and special rounds are organised to fill the seats.
