Question : RECRUITMENT BY ISIS



(a) whether Indian youths have reported been recruited by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS);

(b) if so, the details of such cases reported in the country;

(c) whether there have been reports of flashing ISIS symbols or flags in some parts of the country by local people;

(d) if so, the details of such cases reported, State-wise; and

(e) the reaction of the Government thereto and the pre-emptive measures taken to check the spread of ISIS influence in the country?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI KIREN RIJIJU)

(a) & (b): There are intelligence inputs that a few Indian youth have left the country to join the ISIS. Their numbers, however, are miniscule. The intelligence agencies are closely monitoring their movement and activities.

(c) & (d): There have been isolated instances of some people flashing ISIS symbols, especially in the States of Jammu & Kashmir and Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu Police have also registered a criminal case in this regard.

(e): The Government is closely monitoring the situation and has directed the intelligence and security agencies to identify all such elements and keep a watch on their activities. The Cyber-space is also being closely scanned in this regard. Further details in this regard cannot be disclosed due to operational reasons.
