(a)and (b)The Government had launched the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) [(SBM(G)] with effect from 2nd October, 2014 with the aim to achieve universal sanitation coverage by 2nd October 2019 by providing access to toilet facilities to all rural households in the country. The focus of the scheme is on behavior change and usage of toilets. State/UT-wise percentage of rural households which have access to toilets facilities as on 7.12.2018, as reported by the States/UTs on the online Integrated Management Information System (IMIS)of SBM(G), are given at Annexure-1.
(c) and (d) There has been significant progress in the Bundelkhand region under the Swachh Bharat Mission. All the districts of Madhya Pradesh in Bundelkhand region have already been declared Open Defecation Free(ODF), while Uttar Pradesh is on track to become ODF before the set target of 2nd October 2019.
(e) and (f) Under SBM(G), the Government has set target of 100% open-defecation free India by 2nd October, 2019. So far, 25 States/UTs, namely, A & N Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, D & N Haveli, Daman & Diu, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand have been declared Open Defecation Free (ODF). Remaining States are on track to becoming ODF by 2nd October 2019.
