Question : REHABILITATION OF IT PROFESSIONALS

:-

(a) whether the Government of India has taken note of the influx of thousands of software professionals back to India, who were thrown out of I.T. firms all over the world;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the steps taken by the Government for their rehabilitation?

Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY(DR. SANJAY PASWAN)

(a) and (b): There is no data to substantiate that these people came back to India in large numbers and are jobless. As per NASSCOM, most of these professionals were able to relocate their jobs in these countries. The number of professionals who came back to India is not very high. Out of these, who were suitably qualified, were absorbed by the industry and most of those who were not suitably qualified have undergone retraining.

(c): Several policy measures have been taken to facilitate infrastructural development and attract foreign investments in the area of IT for improving the position of employment in the country. Some of them are setting up of new software technology parks, establishing Media Lab Asia, spread of internet and IT enabled services.

Following two initiatives are taken in order to address the problems which are likely to be faced by the Indian IT professionals in the coming years:

- Promoting new markets (other than USA) like EU, Latin America, Asian region etc.

- Making off-shore developments/services more attractive and increasing confidence level of clients abroad.
