STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 497 DUE FOR REPLY ON 28TH APRIL, 2015.
(a) to (c): Under National Crop Insurance Programme (NCIP) which include Modified Agricultural Insurance Scheme, Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme and Coconut Palm Insurance Scheme, the actuarial premium rates, based on risk involved, are being charged. However, to make the schemes affordable to farmers, subsidy upto 75% of premium is provided by the Government, which is shared equally by the Central and State Governments. Some States like Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Tripura have urged the Union Government to increase the central share to lessen the burden of State Governments. There is no proposal at present to increase the Central Government’s share in premium subsidy.
