(a) Whether the Government have taken any steps to increase the capacity of telephone exchanges and provide modern communication facilities in the Ranchi district of Bihar and Nandurbar district of Maharashtra;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the time by which it is likely to be done;

(c) the number of persons on the waiting list for telephone connections in the Nandurbar district as on date, exchange-wise;

(d) the number of telephone connections provided during the last three years and till date;

(e) the steps taken by the Government to clear the waiting list in the said district;

(f) the number of officers of telecommunications and postal department found involved in corruption in Ranchi district during the last one year and till date; and (g) the action taken by the Government against the guilty persons?

(a) Yes, Sir.

(b) The details of increase in the capacity of telephone exchanges in Ranchi district of Bihar and Nandurbar of Maharashtra during the year 1999-2000 upto February` 2000, is given in annexure-I. The steps taken with respect to modern facilities are as under:

(i) Internet facility is available in Ranchi and Nandurbar districts on local call basis.

(ii) ISDN services are available in Ranchi.

(iii) IN services are planned to be provided in Ranchi during the year 2000-2001.

(c) Waiting list for telephone connections in Nandurbar district is 2363, as on 29-2-2000. Exchange-wise details are given in annexure-II.
(d) The number of telephone connections provided in Nandurbar district during the last 3years and till date is given below:

(e) The steps taken are as under:

(i) A 512 P C-DOT exchange, at Phakasha, is under installation

(ii) 3500 and 1000 lines (expansion) exchange equipment has been ordered for Shahada and Nandurbar respectively and will be installed during 2000-2001.

(iii) Remaining exchanges, wherever there is waiting list, are also planned to be expanded during 2000-2001 to clear the waiting list.

(f) No officer of Department of Telecommunication Services and Department of Posts has been found involved in corruption in Ranchi district during the last one year and till date.

(g) Does not arise in view of (f) above.
