Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE(SHRI SHRIPAD Y. NAIK)

(a) to (d) Plant Quarantine inspection and supervision charges for imported plants/plant material, seeds and fruits for consumption, which also include cashewnut were increased in May, 2000. The fee structure was subsequently rationalized and reduced in June, 2000 on reconsideration with reference to requests received from various quarters including the State Government of Kerala. The revised fee structure seeks to levy the inspection fee on a graded basis. The import of cashewnut is mostly done in bulk quantity. Before May, 2000, the inspection charges were Rs.40/- per tonne for bulk quantity which was increased to Rs.600/- per tonne in May, 2000 and subsequently reduced to Rs.75/- per tonne in June, 2000.
