Question : ALLOCATION OF POWER TO STATES

(a) whether several State Governments in the country including Maharashtra have requested the Union Government for allocation of additional power from the central power generating stations;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the action taken by the Government in this regard?

Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF POWER ( SHRI BHARATSINH SOLANKI )

(a) to (c) : As most of the States and UTs in the country have been facing power shortages, various States/UTs request for additional allocation of unallocated power of CGSs from time to time. The quantum of unallocated power in the CGSs being limited, it can only supplement the power available from other sources. Further, at any point of time the entire unallocated power of Central Generating Stations remains allocated to the States/UTs, enhancement in allocation of any State/UT is feasible only by way of equivalent reduction in the allocation of other State (s)/UT(s).

Following outage of units of Chandrapur TPS of MahaGenco in April, 2010, Government of Maharashtra had requested Government of India for additional allocation of power. The state has been provided additional 100 MW power from Central Generating Stations w.e.f 06.05.2010.
