(a) the State-wise break up of the expenditure incurred under the National Rural
Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) during the last two years in terms of wage material
ratio; and
(b) the proportion of funds spent by the Gram Panchayats, State-wise under the
scheme during the last two years?

(a): State-wise details for the years 2006-07 and 2007-08 are given in the Annexure.
(b): In accordance with Section 16 (5) of the NREG Act, 2005, at least fifty per cent
of the works in terms of its cost under a Scheme are to be implemented through the Gram
Panchayats. Data relating to the proportion of funds spent by the Gram Panchayats is not
maintained at Central level.
