Question : DENOTIFICATION OF ROADS AS HIGHWAYS



(a) whether the Government has a policy to denotify those sections of the Scheduled Roads such as National Highways and State Highways passing through the towns and cities and notify fresh sections constructed as by-pass road;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (c) The Central Government is primarily responsible for the development and maintenance of National Highways only. The notifications/denotifications of National Highways are done as per provisions of the National Highways Act, 1956, on receipt of proposals received from the State Governments.
