Question : GAS AVAILABLE IN LAKWA PROJECT



(a) the date on which the GAIL Lakwa L.P.G. Recovery Project was approved and completed;

(b) the projected gas availability from ONGC`s Lakwa region at the time of approving the project;

(c) whether there is a short fall in the availability of gas for the plant as on date;

(d) the reasons therefor; and

(e) the financial impact on the Plant due to the short fall?

(a) The Government approved the GAIL`s LPG recovery project at Lakwa on September 25,1992, and the plant was commissioned on October 19, 1998.

(b) The projected gas availability from the ONGC`s fields for Lakwa project at the time of its approval was 2.0 million standard cubic metre per day(MMSCMD).

(c) Presently, ONGC is supplying at an average of 0.85 MMSCMD feed gas for the Lakwa LPG plant.

(d) Major oil fields of ONGC at Lakwa, Geleki and Rudrasagar, etc., entering the natural declining phase, environmental problems and irregular power supply are the main reasons for shortfall in gas supply.

(e) GAIL incurred a loss of Rs.16.13 crores in the year 1999-2000 on LPG plant operation due to shortfall in gas availability.
