Question : COMMITTEE ON WELFARE OF FREEDOM FIGHTERS



(a) whether the Union Government has constituted a committee of eminent freedom fighters to look into issues related to welfare of freedom fighters and their eligible dependents;

(b) if so, the details of the meetings held by the said committee in this regard; (

(c) whether the said committee has reviewed the facilities available to freedom fighters during the recent past including in Srinagar; and

(d) if so, the details and the outcome thereof?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI KIREN RIJIJU)

(a) & (b): The Government has reconstituted a Committee of Eminent Freedom Fighters on 15.7.2014 to look into the issues relating to welfare of the freedom fighters. The Committee met twice during September, 2014 and April, 2015 at Port Blair and Srinagar respectively.

(c) & (d): In Srinagar meeting the demands of the freedom fighters as well as existing facilities available such as free Railway Pass, free medical facilities under CGHS/Central Government Hospital/PSUs, provision of 4% reservation under “Combined Category” for Physically Handicapped Personnel(PH), Outstanding Sports Persons(OSP) and Freedom Fighters(FF) in the normal selection procedure adopted by Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies for allotment of petrol pumps, gas agencies etc. to them have been discussed & reviewed.
