Question : DOWRY PROHIBITION ACT, 1961



(a) whether the incidents of killing of young girls for the sake of dowry have not declined in the country despite implementing the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 and such incidents take place everyday in one or the other State;

(b) if so, the facts thereof;

(c) whether the Government are aware that some sanctions of the said Act are anomalous;

(d) if so, whether the Government propose to make any amendment in the act and procedures related to the dowry; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a)&(b) As per the data compiled by the National Crimes Records Bureau (NCRB), Ministry of Home Affairs, the incidents of dowry deaths reported in the country during the years 2000, 2001 and 2002 are as follows:
