Question : Grabbing of Land by Gangs

(a) whether the Government has taken any action against the gangs who prepare fake documents under the conspiracy to grab the property of people;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the number of such gangs found during the last three years along with the details of the rules under which action has been taken against the said people, State-wise; and

(d) the outcome of the action taken in this regard?

(a) & (b) : ‘Police’ and ‘Public Order’ are State subjects under the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution of India and State Governments are responsible for prevention, detection, registration and investigation of crime including land grabbing on the basis of fake/ forged documents and for prosecuting the criminals through their law enforcement agencies. The Ministry of Home Affairs issues advisories to States and UTs from time to time, to maintain law and order and ensure that any person who takes law into his/her own hand is punished promptly as per law.
(c) & (d) : National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) does not maintain data in this regard.
