Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI HARIBHAI PARATHIBHAI CHAUDHARY)

(a) to (b): The Government of NCT of Delhi has made installation of electronic meter compulsory in auto rickshaw running in the NCT of Delhi. However, 631 auto rickshaws registered during 2002-2003 under ‘Eco friendly Sewa’ were exempted from installing fare meters as these were required to run on specific routes. As regards National Capital Region (NCR), information is being collected.

(c) to (d): No complaint with regard to running of auto rickshaw without electronic meter in Delhi has been received.

(e): Whenever any such complaint is received, corrective and punitive action is taken. Delhi Police regularly prosecutes auto rickshaws which are found violating traffic rules and regulations in NCT of Delhi.
