Question : Conservation of Petroleum Products

(a) the steps being taken by the Government for the conservation of petroleum products and their effective utilisation;
(b) whether the Government has launched any awareness campaign in the country for the conservation of petroleum products; and
(c) if so, the details thereof along with the highlights of the said campaign?

(a) : (i) Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) has initiated Standards and Labeling Programme for LPG Domestic Gas Stoves, Diesel mono-set pumps and Diesel Generator sets under which star labeled equipments are being made available to consumers.
(ii) Ministry of Power has issued average fuel consumption standards for cars in April, 2015. Same has been adopted by Ministry of Road Transport and Highway in October, 2016. Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has accepted the report of the Steering Committee for formulating fuel economy norms in respect of Heavy Duty Vehicles (HDVs). Ministry of Power has issued standards for heavy duty commercial vehicles in August, 2017.
(b) & (c) : Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) has undertaken nationwide people centric mass awareness annual campaign, called “Saksham (Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav)” starting 16th January in association with PSU Oil & Gas Companies. During this month long drive, various sections of society viz. students, youths, farmers, housewives, drivers, industrial workers, etc. are engaged to profess and propagate the need to conserve the petroleum products by their judicious utilization.
